Mont Orgueil - Spring 2001
Mont Orgueil - Spring 2001
Much of the Section's thinking and discussion in recent months has been concerned with Mont Orgueil Castle and the Jersey Heritage Trust's plans to make a speculative construction of a Tudor Great Hall in the open area of the keep with attendant provision of toilets and kitchen on two levels of the D-shaped area leading off it. It is a matter of some relief to read on the Trust's website that these proposals are now "subject to review in the light of the findings of the Conservation Plan" now being prepared. The Section will monitor developments very closely. Work at Tesson Mil has been held up for some months because of flooding in the foundations. It is hoped to restart shortly. The Section is also anxious either to do a rescue dig on a site at Les Blanches Banques or, if this is not possible, at least to cover it over to preserve it. Watch this space.
