Tesson Mill - Spring 1999
Tesson Mill - Spring 1999
This is the third year that the Section under the direction of Mr Chris Aubin is undertaking work at Tesson Mill. Two wheel pits have been cleaned out in the wheel room and a large area of recent concrete floor removed uncovering the solid base for the cogs and shafts to drive the mill stones in the room above.
Work has also been done in the rear yard cleaning around the base of the chimney and a trench dug to try and establish the front position of the boiler that occupied the area and produced the steam that powered the steam engine. Work is now concentrating on the floor area of the engine room. After the removal of another recent concrete floor and the underlying endless buckets of rubble there is now in view a granite bearing block and a very large granite base block which probably supported the steam cylinder from the engine. There is now a clear floor level exposed, this predates the fire but post-dates the abandonment of the steam engine. We are looking forward to its removal; it is waiting to reveal more information.
