Bibliography Review - Spring 2009
Section meetings revolve around items of local interest which members are able to bring along. There are, however, a number of areas we shall be concentrating upon in the coming months. I am not aware of any comprehensive record of books written by local authors and the Section would seem an ideal forum to address this. By way of example the books written by Rev GR Balleine dealing with aspects of local history and of Jerseymen and women, are well known but Balleine also wrote a considerable number of books about religion and theology and these too are worthy of being catalogued.

The writings of Walter Matthew Gallichan (1861-1946) are being recorded and we would be delighted to see a copy of any of the many books which he wrote. Mr Gallichan, a member of the family of jewellers from the Royal Square, wrote on a variety of subjects and his books about fishing are comparatively well known. His many books on social matters, and here he was somewhat at odds with mainstream thinking, are less easy to come by. Mr Gallichan was writing at the same time as Marie Stopes and any reference to them knowing each other, or that they shared ideas, would be welcomed.
Our next meeting will be on Tuesday, 12th May in the Arthur Mourant Room, starting at 8pm to which all members of the Société are welcome.
