Garden History Review - Autumn 2010
As Hamptonne is now open only on special occasions, the Garden History Section will no longer maintain the vegetable garden, containing plants cultivated during the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries.
After 20 years involvement, it is a disappointment. Sincere thanks are due to Rosemary Bett, who has worked hard to maintain the garden, with assistance from April Rosner. We took part in the Société Jersiaise Open Day at La Hougue Bie on 26th June, with Rosemary manning a table with exhibits illustrating the history of important Jersey gardens. On 29th July, Mr Max de la Haye welcomed members to his garden at Le Mont, St Brelade, notable for his collection of dahlias and gladioli. On a fine sunny evening, the dahlias in particular made a magnificent display.
