Garden History Review - Autumn 2007
Our first visit of the year was to Rosel Manor garden, on the 12th April. Mrs Lempriere-Johnston kindly guided us round her beautiful garden with its mature trees and large ponds. We admited the camellias, rhododendrons, magnolias and azaleas and a fine Drimys winteri. It was a misty evening with colours glowing softly and the reflections of azaleas and the Swamp Cypress all the more impressive.
An interesting visit to Fort Regent Gardens was led by Société Jersiaise member, Martin Walton, who is a Blue Badge Guide. The gardens are not generally open to the public, possibly for safety reaons as they are only partially maintained. They were designed by the landscape architect Hedley Farrow in 1968 and plants noted included euonymus, varigated griselinia, ceratostigma, several cherry trees, and bamboo. There is a rose garden and a knot garden and the views from the ramparts are spectacular.

From Thursday 25th October 2007 we will be meeting once again in the Arthur Mourant Room at 5.30pm and at this time every fourth Thursday during the winter months. We hope to welcome new members at this earlier time.
