Garden History Review - Spring 2008
Lovely Spring weather brought forth early blooms which glowed in the warm sunshine, snowdrops, daffodils, crocus, camellias, magnolias and mimosa – until gales hit the island on the 10th March. Some gardens lost a few mature trees and the blooms were stripped from their branches, but we hope the new buds burst to produce beautiful flowers for the Royal Jersey Agricultural & Horticultural Spring Flower Show held in March.
We continue to collate information on gardens and gardeners and on Thursday, 28th February three members of our Section gave a talk on Samuel Curtis, Sir John Le Couteur, Arthur Hellyer and Hope Platt ending with a brief mention of contemporary gardeners who open their gardens to the public in aid of local charities.
We are researching Jersey Parks, past and present, and we would be pleased to receive any information on these important features of our island.
Two garden visits have been arranged for the summer months otherwise our monthly meetings are held in the Arthur Mourant Room, at 8pm on the third Thursday of each month, the next being on Thursday, 10th April. New members are always welcome but please check with the Office for times and venue.
