7.8 Marie-Louise said that Kate Clark, a keynote speaker, discussed World Heritage status for the Channel Islands as an entity at the first Council for Culture Conference on 14th June. Any application would have to come from all the islands and focus on the fortifications. Mary Billot said that several Section members attended; the organisers planned for a maximum attendance of 200, but only 85 registered.
7.8 (20th May 2008) Georgia Le Maistre said that Brenda Ross has located a copy of the Gough Map (1360) in the Map Collection on the fourth floor. She will try to find its provenance.
4.0 Chairman’s communications
4.1 Frank Falle welcomed Mr André Ferrari to the meeting. André lives in Journeaux Street and is an expert on the buildings of St Helier. Frank thanked André, Marie-Louise and Rose Millow for being our guides on the subsequent walk around the area.
4.2 Pitcher VC fund raising : the money required has reached its target. The Association of Jersey Charities has approved membership for the newly formed charity ‘Raising the Standard’. It has made an instant grant of £20,000 to this charity. The medals will be deposited with Jersey Heritage.
4.3 Frank said that two flocks of multi-horned sheep are to be created for the National Trust for Jersey. The sheep will come from England and closely resemble the original Jersey multi-horned sheep.
4.4 Section meeting on Tuesday 15th July 2008 at Le Câtel Fort, Grève de Lecq : there was some discussion about the practicalities for the meeting. It was decided that there would be a slightly delayed start at 5.30pm to allow for travelling time from St Helier. There is no need to bring refreshments as Frank has booked a supper at the Moulin de Lecq Inn for 7.00pm. This will be a main meal and coffee for a very reasonable price per person. Members are advised to bring their own cushions.
Mike Lees will give a short talk about the Fort starting by 6.00pm; Bob Le Sueur will then introduce the archaeological excavations. Doreen Schofield-Fost will collect the keys from the National Trust for the Fort and the Barracks car park.
