La Langue Jèrriaise Review - Autumn 2006
For most of the year members of the Section have continued to edit the selection of Jérriais literature chosen for the Anthology to be published next year. In addition, we have written short pieces for Les Nouvelles Chroniques published by L’Office du Jérriais and one of us managed to contribute to the excellent Fête Normande held in Guernsey at the end of June. Our forthcoming programme includes completion of the editing for the Anthology and support for the proposed Christmas publication by Le Don Balleine of the much-requested companion dictionary to our earlier Jérriais-Angliais one, entitled Le Dictionnaithe Angliais-Jérriais (the English – Jérriais Dictionary).
We shall also be learning to write more articles on particular themes for Les Nouvelles Chroniques and to practice reading or reciting them, as well as preparing for various events such as La Faîs’sie d’Cidre, La Séthée de Niér Beurre, the Eisteddfod and Les Fêtes de Noué.
We shall also continue to keep a watchful eye open for errors in the Jérriais and French of official publications, public notices and signs and to offer our help and advice to the businesses concerned.
New members, including beginners, are always welcome at our meetings at 8.00pm on the first Wednesday of each month at La Société Jersiaise, Pier Road, and further information can be obtained from the Office (758314), John Clarke (873556) and Ralph Nichols (Tel/Fax 862756).
