Francis Foot
Francis Foot
Francis Foot was born in 1885. His first trade was gas fitter, but he soon realised that the instant music from phonographs and records and the wonders of photography could be a source of revenue as well as fascination. The Foot family ran two shops in St Helier, gramophone dealers and general merchants in Dumaresq Street and Pitt Street from where Francis worked as a photographer. The painted "HMV" logo is still visible, though very faded, on the wall in Pitt Street. Some of his photographs were published as postcards. Francis married Margaret Vernon with whom he had four children – George, Stanley, Dora and Reginald born between 1914 and 1920. Many of his images feature portraits of his family. He died in 1966.
