Photographic Archive Review - Autumn 2008

The closing date for entries to the 2008 Société Jersiaise Photography Competition was reached on 26 September. This event has once again inspired an excellent response, with 365 photographs from 104 photographers submitted. All the photographs have now been catalogued and preparations for judging are underway. We are pleased to introduce our panel of judges for 2008: Mr John Clarke, Vice President Société Jersiaise; Richard Wainwright, Photographer; and Mrs Gloria Warner, supporter of the Coastline Campaign, National Trust for Jersey. Our judges face the challenge of selecting 1st, 2nd and 3rd prize images in the Architecture, Coastline, Community, Natural History and Junior categories, and a further twenty commendations for inclusion in the 2008 exhibition. Considering the fact that we will be exhibiting less than 10% of total submissions, competition is tough, but as a result we can look forward to an impressive show. The presentation of prizes and exhibition preview will take place in the Members' Room at the Société Christmas Gathering on the evening of 17 December. The exhibition will be open to the public from 9am - 5pm, Thursday 18 to Tuesday 23 December 2008 and Monday 5 to Friday 16 January 2009 (closed at weekends). All entries will join those from previous years in the competition online gallery on the Société website and will also feature in a digital slideshow presented as part of the exhibition. We are delighted to announce that in June 2009 the exhibition will be the first to be shown in a new display area at Jersey Airport Departures Hall following a large scale renovation scheduled for completion in May 2009.
