Richard Whinnerah
Richard Whinnerah
Born in Beverley, East Yorkshire, in 1913, Richard Whinnerah came to Jersey in 1930 and worked at the Albert Smith firm in York Street. Later he worked at R. Wills in Halkett Place and, during the war, in Boots’ photographic department. In 1946 he set up a photographic business with partner Sam Sennett, running a shop at number 19 King Street. The partnership was dissolved in 1954 and Richard Whinnerah set up on his own at number 17 King Street – advertising as "Photographic Dealer, Commercial Photographer, Passport Photographs". Apart from photography, one of his main interests was the amateur dramatic group "The Green Room Club" - which he joined in 1930 - and many of his images are of theatre productions. He was married, with two children, and he died in 1977.
