2008 Christmas Card
For our 2008 Christmas card we have again selected a watercolour study from our recently acquired collection of works by Philip John Ouless. The study is of Thomas Sohier's Farm in St Martin which correlates with an 1852 oil painting attributed to Ouless which can be seen on the stairs of No. 7 Pier Road (landing between 2nd and 3rd floor).

Lecture – Channel Islands megalithic tombs – an astronomical connection?
The Société is to host a lecture by Guernseyman, David Le Conte, in the Members' Room at 8 pm on Thursday, 20th November 2008. David has been researching the orientations of the Channel Islands' tombs and their possible astronomical connection, and will present the results of his research in an illustrated lecture. He will describe the astronomical events of which Neolithic man would have been aware, the appearance of the Sun, Moon and stars in past millennia, new measurements of tomb orientations (including those of Jersey), how they relate to the orientations of tombs elsewhere in Europe and even our ancient churches, and a few surprising results. Please contact the office 758314 if you would like to attend – all are welcome.
