TOUR TO AVRANCHES, NORMANDY
Saturday September 18th Sunday September 19th 2004
From Bertram Brιe, History Section, who is organising this weekend
On the weekend of Saturday 18th and Sunday 19th September 2004, Bertram Brιe will lead a group of thirty history enthusiasts from Jersey to visit the town and archives of Avranches, in Normandy. It was a city of learning in the Middle Ages and also has a botanical garden.
Preliminary arrangements are as follows :
· Hotel : Hotel Le Mont Saint Michel in Avranches with its large restaurant Les 13 Assiettes. The website is www.hotel-le-mont-saint-michel.com
· Cost about £100.00 per person for 1 night bed and breakfast, the return ferry fare, coach fees and the guides
· Extras to be costed are your lunches and dinners, for which you will pay individually
· Saturday 18th September : Jersey to Saint Malo then on to the hotel. Visit to Avranches Museum and Archives. Avranches is twinned with St Helier and its archives have manuscripts on the early history of the Channel Islands
· Sunday 19th September : visit to Mont-St-Michel where M. Saint-James will be our guide. Visit Avranches Church then return to Saint Malo and Jersey
· Travel insurance and tips to the coach drivers are not included
· Size of party : upto 30 people. History Section members have priority. It will be announced in the SJ Spring 2004 newsletter and also to the Variety Club/SJ Down your way walks mailing list
